		<description>Woo-Hoo!
A lady after my own heart! Thanks for the great run-down on some alternate-ware ideas!

I had similar faves back in the day before Win95 made its debut, but due to compatibility troubles which abounded then, I kinda gave up the idea and went the MS path.

Avagio and ClarisWorks were on those early lists because they allowed me to use my new color printer... and I could work on my CW docs on either IBM or Mac machines, since Claris had versions for both platforms (which was not very common back then). Both were a fraction of the price of similar MS products.

When I bought my first PC in grad school in 1988 (a used CPQ Portable 286 at 8MHz, 640k RAM, 20G HardCard, and CGA for $1,500), almost all my software was shareware I bought from a shop across the road from school (UT Austin).

I guess SlicWorks was the first title... an Office-type suite of apps that fit onto a single 5.25" floppy disk. Hah! It was said to be "Like [Lotus] Symphony" for those who remember that one.
